New solar and wind projects in Saudi Arabia and Oman boost regional clean energy goals.
Focusing on expanding clean energy efforts in Saudi Arabia and Oman, Shanghai Electric has entered into major renewable energy deals with Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Mustar) and Oman’s Mawarit Group.
According to Global Data Strategic Intelligence, the collaboration with Mustar focuses on building a 2GW solar power plant in Saudi Arabia, dubbed the Saadawi Project. The facility – Shanghai Electric’s largest solar power plant project to date – will cover an area of 40 square kilometers, generate more than six billion kilowatt-hours annually, and is expected to reduce carbon emissions by three million tons while providing electricity to 700,000 homes. The project will use advanced photovoltaic technology to harness Saudi Arabia’s solar resources and is a key part of the country’s renewable energy strategy.
In Oman, Shanghai Electric and Mawarit Group have partnered to develop wind energy projects.
Both projects reflect the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030 and Oman Vision 2040, emphasizing sustainability, local involvement and technological cooperation. Wu Lei, Chairman of Shanghai Electric Group, described the agreements as a significant milestone for the company’s presence in the Middle East’s renewable sector.
His Excellency Mohammed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, highlighted the importance of deepening cooperation in wind, solar and energy storage to accelerate the global transition towards clean energy.
These partnerships are expected to drive regional energy diversification, foster knowledge exchange, and contribute to global efforts to reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
