Saudi Arabia awards Jubail–Buraidah water transmission EBC contract to MGC

Saudi Arabia’s Mutlaq Al-Khwairi Contracting Company (‘MGC’) has announced that it has signed an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract for the Jubail-Buraidah Independent Water Transfer Pipeline Project.

The project is a significant boost to the water infrastructure in Al-Qassim and the Eastern Provinces, meeting the drinking water needs of both regions. The pipeline will have a transfer capacity of 650,000 m3/day and a length of 587 km.

The project, in line with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture’s plans for the regional connectivity of drinking water across the Kingdom, will have the capacity to provide reverse flow from Al-Shamasiya to Al-Jubail via Al-Kulayib at full design capacity, ensuring a high level of continuous and stable drinking water supply in both regions.

The project includes 6 strategic storage tanks in Al-Shamasiya and 3 strategic storage tanks in Al-Jubail, with a total storage capacity of (1,634,500) cubic meters, ensuring reliable and efficient water supply in both regions.

In early March 2025, the Saudi Water Joint Stock Company (SWPC), Aljomaih Energy & Water Company, and a consortium comprising Nesma Company Limited and Buhur for Investment Company signed contracts for the Jubail-Buraidah Independent Water Transfer Pipeline (IWTP) project, with a total project cost of 8.5 billion riyals.
