
What is the reason for the demands to withdraw the Egyptian nationality from Hend Sabry..?
A state of controversy and a wave of criticism raised about the Tunisian artist Hend Sabri during the past few days, after some circulated publications of her supporting the convoy of steadfastness heading from Tunisia to the Gaza Strip through Egyptian territory, what some considered a violation of the official Egyptian position and became the talk of social media.
The crisis erupted when a post by Hend Sabri was circulated on her personal Instagram account in support of the convoy to break the siege heading from Tunisia to Gaza under the title “Convoy of Steadfastness”, an initiative that received wide interaction in the Arab world and opinions were divided between supporters and opponents of the idea.
Following the spread of Hind Sabry’s statements about her support for the steadfastness convoy, a large number of the Egyptian public attacked her, as some considered her statements a clear violation of the Egyptian official position, and the matter reached demands to withdraw her Egyptian citizenship, and to delete her from the Acting Professions Syndicate in Egypt.
In a controversial Facebook post, Dr. Ashraf Sabry, the father of actress Yasmine Sabry, criticized the actions of Hend Sabry, writing: “Imagine that the Tunisian actress who became famous in Egypt supports the caravan against the opinion of the Egyptian people and their government, these are the people we elevate, while despising the opinions of Egyptians.”
Ashraf Sabry called for the withdrawal of Egyptian nationality from her and her deportation from Egypt, explaining in his publication: «I demand her deportation and dismissal from the Actors Syndicate», and considered her support for the convoy clear ingratitud towards the Egyptian state, which embraced it artistically and gave it the opportunity to appear, pointing out that what it has done is a violation of the respect due to the state in which it lives and works.
On the other hand, others defended the artist Hend Sabry, pointing out that her support is a humanitarian move and not political, and among her defenders was director Yousry Nasrallah, and wrote through his personal account on Faceboo, Hind Sabri her love for Egypt and the Egyptians is very difficult any extent questioned, the atmosphere of terrorism of everyone who disagrees with you, is the biggest possible abuse directed to Egypt and the Egyptians.
Egyptian critic Tarek El-Shenawy described the campaign against the artist as a fake story, adding that it was an attempt to assassinate her morally, commenting on Facebook: “I am confident that all papers will be exposed.”
For her part, Hind Sabry has not yet issued any direct response to the attack and demands for her extradition from Egypt, which has become the talk of «social media.
