
Malaysia’s Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), through its wholly-owned subsidiary TNB Repair and Maintenance Sdn Bhd (TNB Remaco), announces that it has been awarded a contract by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy to provide maintenance services at the Sabiyah Power Generation and Water Desalination Plant.
- The contract is valued at RM705 million (USD 161.1 million).
- Awarded through a joint venture with Kuwait-based Al Thow Engineering, the seven-year contract covers maintenance, repair and overhaul works at the plant, located approximately 65 km from Kuwait City.
- The facility consists of four oil and gas-fired units with a combined generating capacity of 299.4 MW, playing a key role in Kuwait’s energy infrastructure.
- The agreement was formalised at a signing ceremony at the National Bank of Kuwait’s head office on March 12, 2025. The event was attended by TNB Chairman and CEO Datuk Meghat Jalaluddin Meghat Hassan, Al Thow Engineering Chairman Issam Al-Sagar, TNB Power Generation SDN BHD (TNB GENCO) Managing Director and TNB Remaco Chairman Datuk Muhamad Nazri Fasil, and TNB Remaco Managing Director Abidin Sarjo.
- Datuk Muhamad Nazri noted that TNB Remaco has established a strong foothold in Kuwait since its market entry in 2013. The company currently oversees 11 active projects in the country with a combined value of more than RM4.54 billion. To date, 16 TNB experts have been deployed to Kuwait, with six currently managing ongoing operations.
