The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources of Oman celebrated the inauguration of the Wadi Anar Dam in Salalah, Dhofar Governorate.
The project, which cost around RO 23 million, is part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to improve protection against flood risks.
The inauguration ceremony was chaired by Dr. Mahat Saeed Ba’o’in, Minister of Labor. It was attended by government officials and representatives of private sector companies.
The project also seeks to improve water security, especially by capturing the large amounts of water that occur during heavy rains in the nearby mountains and by diverting rain towards the Salalah Port, Raysud Industrial City and Salalah Free Zone.
To ensure the safety of the dam, the ministry implemented advanced technologies, including the use of smart monitoring systems that assess water levels in the lake in case of emergencies. In addition, the project will be provided with seismic sensors to monitor any sudden geological activity. In addition, there will be surveillance cameras to provide comprehensive coverage of all sections of the dam.
The dam is also equipped with automatic control gates that regulate the flow of water as needed. The gates can be operated remotely through a secure central system and other equipment integrated with a central control room, from which data is received and analyzed in real time.
