Saudi Arabia’s National Water Company (NWC) has announced the launch of 15 development projects worth more than SAR2.3 billion to serve more than 1.3 million beneficiaries. The projects are in line with the company’s strategic objectives of improving service quality and improving operational efficiency in the wastewater sector.
One of these projects is the construction of a sewage pipeline from areas east of Haramain Road to Lift Station 2 at the airport, known as the Eastern Tunnel Project in Jeddah. The project is estimated to cost more than SAR774 million and is being constructed using the latest advanced tunneling techniques that do not require a large number of entrances that could affect traffic and services.
According to the NWC, the Eastern Tunnel Project involves the construction of a main transformer line approximately 14 kilometers long. The company also pointed out that this is one of the most important strategic projects to improve the environmental service system and eliminate environmental damage in several districts located east of the Haramain Road in Jeddah, including Brayman, Al Manar, Al Ajwad, Al Samar, Al Montazah, Al Tawfiq, Al Rabieh, Marrik, Al Waha and Al Nakheel. The company said that the project will benefit about 1.1 million beneficiaries.
The NWC stressed that it is striving to improve the operational efficiency of environmental services and improve the quality of services in areas east of the Haramain Road by implementing the airport wastewater disposal project at a cost of more than SAR915 million with a capacity of 611,000 cubic meters per day. The move aims to reduce pollution and increase the coverage of services in the beneficiary districts.
It also announced that it has begun implementing a sewage project in parts of Jeddah districts Samar 1, 2, 3 and Samar 4, with a length of more than 17.8 kilometers and a cost of more than SAR 54 million. It aims to achieve strategic corporate goals such as eliminating environmental damage, improving infrastructure, improving services for the population and providing services to 20,000 beneficiaries.
NWC will continue its sewage disposal projects to increase the coverage of sewage networks. In order to serve several districts in Jeddah, it has begun implementing 10 feeder sewerage projects, namely Al Waha 1, 2, and 3, Al Shadi 2, 3, 4, 5, and parts of Al Shadi 6, parts of Al Nahda 1 and 3, Al Zahra 4 and parts of Al Zahra 1, 2, and 3.
Furthermore, two surface water reduction projects are being implemented in the districts of Bahra Governorate, as well as in the districts of Al Raya, Al Mosaid and Kilo 14, at a total cost of more than SAR620 million, covering a distance of more than 238 kilometers and serving more than 184,000 beneficiaries.
The company stressed that the rapid growth and significant urban development of Jeddah city are accelerating development and improvement projects in line with the highest standards of quality and efficiency. This aims to expand service coverage in underserved districts, improve operational efficiency in the water and wastewater sector, and support the objectives of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.
